Gear-boxes

Our independent experts rely on many years of experience in maintaining different gearbox types, like helical gears, bevel gears, pinion stand gears or planetary gears. Our maintenance service and further measures are available for gears of different manufacturers. Depending on the size of the machine, maintenance can be performed on-site or in the facilities of the provider. Transparency and reliability is ensured by listing components and their respective conditions in detail.

If necessary, additional measures like torque measurements or vibration analyses can be carried out.

Procedure 

Initial Checking

Upon receipt at Canham premises, the gearbox is identified, processed, photographed and couplings or other attachments are removed. General condition of the drive is noted for our report, end float and backlash are measured and recorded.

The gearbox is completely stripped, photographed, inspected and condition recorded. All shafts and gears are non-destructive tested. All bearing details are recorded and compared with OEM supply. Upon client acceptance of DCL quotation the gearbox then moves to the next stage of refurbishment.

Gear & Bearing Removal

Canham Engineering has several 400 ton presses, plus 300 ton and 100 ton as well as our portable hydraulic horizontal bearing puller. Removal of couplings, gears and bearings as well as any other attachments is made safer, quicker and easier by having all the right equipment in house.

Components Cleaning

All components are cleaned either by hand or in our turbowash ensuring there are no contaminants and any damage can be clearly identified. All shafts and gears needs to be cleaned correctly for inspections and measurements.

Shaft Checking

All shafts are checked for dimensional accuracy, concentricity, ovality and straightness before being reused. This, when added to the crack detection, means that as our customer, you can be confident that these components are not being reused unless they are at least up to, if not exceeding, OEM specification for that particular application.
